Jason Leek - Bass / Vocals

I was born on June 12th, 1976 at Martha Jefferson hospital in Charlottesville, Va. I went to school and lived most of my life in Blountville, Tn. In May, of 2001, I married Amy Meade from Bristol Va. and that’s where we reside today. We have a beautiful little girl named Lyndsy Netta Leek and she was born on January 31st 2003. Most of my family and friends refer to her as “Dora The Explorer”.

I was raised in church as was introduced to music at an early age. Growing up, I would spend the day with my mom at her music store watching her play the piano, she plays very well by the way. I learned to play the piano when I was 6years old & I was singing the Dukes of Hazard theme song to all my teachers in elementary school. (I was always considered the “class clown” in school, imagine that!)

My dad, who lives in Jefferson, N.C., always had big collections of Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver tapes and several other groups. I fell in love with bluegrass and gospel music by listening to these collections. I soon developed a passion for acappella singing by listening to the “old timey” groups like Chestnut Grove, The Hardin Brothers, The Good Neighbor Quartet, etc. After high school, I decided to start an acappella quartet called The Glorylight Quartet and we sang together for about 4years.

In my free time I enjoy playing sports, shooting pool, going to movies, EATING, hanging out with family and friends and I have the most fun watching cartoons with my little girl.

I first met Barry Scott at a DL&Q concert and in December 2005 he had talked to me about starting his own band. I had always admired his singing and considered him one of my “heroes” in bluegrass. (although I would never tell him that! Ha Ha) I was thrilled to hear of the direction he wanted to go with his new band. Over the next several months we became very good friends and I feel very honored and blessed to be a part of Barry Scott & Second Wind!
